Kleoboulos of Rhodos (Rhodes) - Pre-Socratic Philosophers and member of the 'Seven Sages' 6th C bc
This ruler of ancient Lindos (one of the ancient cities of Rhodes), was known as a tyrant, though the original connotation of this term was simply 'absolute ruler'
He was a fine example of the kind of philosopher king that Plato later idealized, being also a poet who had travelled widely and studied Egyptian philosophy. He also composed riddles and epigrams, and fathered a daughter who also wrote poetry and riddles. He restored the sanctuary of Athena built by Danaus. He is also responsible for the then secret water supply at Lindos in use until recently.
